Capturing the Micropayments Opportunity
I micropagamenti - le transazioni di valore inferiore ai 5 Euro per l'acquisto di contenuti digitali - sono una delle più recenti e importanti aree di sviluppo dell'industria dei pagamenti. Oggi nella sola Europa valgono circa 6,4 miliardi di Euro, cifra che dovrebbe almeno raddoppiare nel 2015. In Europa le singole transazioni passeranno dai 6,7 miliardi dello scorso anno ad oltre 17 miliardi di operazioni entro il 2015, come conseguenza della rapida crescita della TV on demand, distribuzione di musica digitale, applicazioni mobili e gaming communities. I micropagamenti rappresentano un business innovativo, collocato nel punto di convergenza di industria telco, media e servizi finanziari: questo rappresenta una vera novità ma anche un potenziale limite data la complessità del servizio richiesto e la poca adattabilità dei principali metodi di pagamento. La sfida principale per i micropagamenti resta oggi il costo della transazione che è ancora elevato rispetto al valore delle merci vendute. Nuovi modelli di business stanno emergendo, così come nuovi attori (ad esempio i player telco e gli ISP), determinando una forte e rapida innovazione.
