Here are my tips for doing well at the interview.
First of all: relax, be yourself, and enjoy the spotlight. Walk in prepared with specific examples, and an attitude, that prove to the interviewer your track-record in leadership, problem solving, personal impact and dedication to results. Know exactly why you want to join Value Partners, and not another consulting firm. Once in, listen carefully to the questions, and don't be shy in asking for clarifications - let the recruiter talk! Take your time in reasoning things over: there's nothing wrong with some silence. If you have a moment of hesitation, be quick to remind yourself that the interviewer wants you to succeed, and that they just need to make the more informed decision possible. Good luck!

What is a business case?
We are looking for creative problem solvers who structure their thoughts to reach sensible conclusions.

One of the best ways to test these skills - as no set academic qualifications nor backgrounds teach this - is to use a business case to see how you structure solving a problem.

A business case is the description of a problem faced by a company. It is usually drawn from the interviewer's experience as a consultant. It is an opportunity in which you should think of the interviewer as a team member and enjoy the problem solving process.

The business case is also the most appropriate moment in the interview cycle for you to prove your skills and to show interviewers your potential in problem structuring and issue identification. In particular we look for:

  • Thought structure
  • Development of hypotheses
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Numerical skills
  • Business acumen
In sum, we do not test your knowledge of the specific business. We look at how you approach problems and also at your effectiveness and self-confidence in communicating your ideas.
